Phase One Desk Study

The Desk Study should be carried out as the preliminary stage of any investigation and is typically required to satisfy planning conditions. The aim is to formulate a conceptual site model, which highlights the potential sources of contamination, receptors and the pathways between them.

A targeted intrusive investigation can then be based upon the information in the desk study. Typical components include a review of the Ordnance Survey historical mapping. An environmental database search including trade directories and landfill data. For sites in Central London our LCC WW2 Bomb Damage Maps are an invaluable tool when assessing a site's history. We also undertake regulatory and Local Authority consultation.
